Dr. Reuben Walker is a dedicated voice teacher and researcher based in Dresden, Germany. He currently holds the position of research associate at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Studio for Voice Research, while also serving as a member of the opera chorus at the Landesbühnen Sachsen. A passionate educator, Dr. Walker has taught voice at a range of institutions, most recently as Lecturer of Voice at Friedrich Alexander Universität Erlangen (2021-2022). He also served as an Associate Instructor and instructor of record for Undergraduate Vocal Pedagogy at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University from 2014 to 2016. There, he developed a comprehensive curriculum focused on vocal physiology, acoustics, practical teaching techniques, repertoire selection, and studio management.

In his teaching, Dr. Walker emphasizes the integration of vocal health with artistic expression, drawing on his extensive experience as both a performer and a researcher. He is currently completing his Dr. rer. med. degree at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, in the Department of Audiology and Phoniatrics. His research interests center on the acoustics of voice production and its application to vocal performance, including studies on timbral and vibrato development. He has presented his findings at international conferences, such as the Pan-European Vocal Conference in Santander, Spain, and at the Stockholm Music Acoustics Conference in Sweden, and his work has been published in respected journals, including the Journal of the Royal Society Interface and the Journal of Voice.

Dr. Walker’s pedagogical philosophy is deeply aligned with the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. His approach to teaching is informed by his commitment to community engagement and his belief in the power of education to create meaningful connections. His doctoral project involved a collaboration with Reimagining Opera with Kids’ Lunchbox Project, a touring outreach initiative designed to explore the cultural diversity of students through the objects in their lunchboxes. This focus on community service learning has shaped Dr. Scott’s teaching, as he seeks to deepen relationships within the local and global community while supporting his students’ development both academically and professionally.

As a performer, Dr. Walker has enjoyed an active career in opera and concert work across Europe and the United States. His notable roles have included the title role in Eugene Onegin, Kilian in Der Freischütz, and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, among others. These experiences as a professional singer inform his teaching, offering students a unique perspective on vocal technique, stagecraft, and professional development.

Dr. Walker is dedicated to fostering a nurturing and collaborative environment in his classrooms, where students are encouraged to explore their artistic potential while building a strong foundation in vocal science. His commitment to mentorship and professional development extends to his efforts in recruiting and guiding students toward success in their careers.
